Quoting in footnotes

Here readers of The End of Cinema? A Medium in Crisis in the Digital Age and users of its complementary site (theendofcinema.com) will find directives for indicating the source of a quoted passage, according to whether it comes from an original note or a complementary note.

Original notes

First, readers should be aware that all the original notes, meaning those found in the printed book, have been reproduced for informative purposes on the complementary site, where they are found above the remark “Find out more” (in grey type). Quoting these original notes is done in the same way as for the notes in the printed book. A reference to note 19 on page 209, for example, should thus read as follows:

André Gaudreault and Philippe Marion, The End of Cinema? A Medium in Crisis in the Digital Age (New York: Columbia University Press, 2015), p. 209, n. 19.

Complementary notes

With respect to the complementary notes, which are found below the remark “Find out more” on the complementary site, to indicate the source of the quotation readers should specify that it is taken from the “online complementary site” and add the URL of the page on which the quoted passage is found. Here is how a complementary reference for note 19 on page 209, for example, should be expressed:

André Gaudreault and Philippe Marion, The End of Cinema? A Medium in Crisis in the Digital Age (online complementary site) (New York, Columbia University Press, 2015), p. 209, n. 19, http://theendofcinema.com/p-43/ (consulted on [date of consultation]).
